Jeremiah Puni is an Australian Samoan director and writer of Pasifika heritage and Saibai descent. He is one of the first Islanders to graduate from the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) with a Master of Arts in Screen Directing, after completing his Bachelor of Arts in Screen Production in 2019. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Media from UTS.
Raised in Newcastle, Jeremiah began making short films while completing a weekly paper run with his sisters. He attended his local state high school, representing the school in rugby and later representing New South Wales in volleyball for consecutive national championships. These formative experiences shaped his work ethic and sense of humour, grounding his storytelling in performance and emotional truth.
His AFTRS short Keys (2019) earned him Best New Director at the Revolution Me Film Festival in New York, while Scars (2024) won Best Student Cinematography at the SA & WA Australian Cinematographers Society Awards. His recent directorial projects include Squata Locks (2025) and Boots (2026). He is also an experienced editor, having worked on SBS On Demand (Tracking Farmer Dave), triple j Unearthed (Something About It), and projects for TAFE NSW.
Jeremiahs’ work centres culturally authentic storytelling, foregrounding performance within emotionally complex narratives. He is drawn to stories of resilience, empathy, and community, elevating everyday protagonists whose quiet strength challenges dominant narratives. He deeply believes that diverse stories, told with specificity and care, resonate with universal power.
